The Huston Family Archive

Spanning generations and continents, the Huston Family Archives represent a remarkable collection of family history gathered and preserved by dedicated family members over many decades.

The collection traces the family's journey from Ireland to Australia and New Zealand, with records, photographs, stories, and research held by relatives across multiple countries. Over time, a wealth of material had accumulated, including handwritten family trees passed down from one generation to the next, suitcases filled with treasured photographs, family correspondence, certificates, and memoirs written by family members keen to preserve their memories and experiences.

While each item held significant historical and personal value, the collection existed in many different formats and locations, making it difficult to access, share, and safeguard for future generations.

The project focused on bringing these diverse records together into a single, organised archive. Photographs, documents, family trees, and memoirs were carefully collated, digitised, and preserved, ensuring that decades of family research and storytelling could be protected from loss while becoming more accessible to relatives around the world. The results were a book being published by myself and cousin based in the UK, James Houston, which is now available for family members and has also had a copy donated to Houston's Mill, in Broughshane, Ireland.

Today, the Huston Family Archives provide a lasting digital record of the family's history, connecting generations across Ireland, Australia, and New Zealand and ensuring that their stories can continue to be discovered, shared, and enjoyed by future descendants.
